The aim of The LOFT is to promote excellence in writing, to provide community outreach and continuing support for writers, and to help writers become published. We are dedicated to making a positive impact in the literary arts community of Rhode Island and beyond. Our creative writers, volunteers and guest authors provide the inspiration and momentum to learn our craft and share it with others.
One of the oldest literary arts nonprofit in Rhode Island, The Poetry Loft was founded in 2008. The Loft has evolved since those early days, consistently growing and developing, all thanks to the dedicated writers of this amazing community!
Throughout the years, the LOFT has produced and collaborated on many wonderful literary projects and continues to bring the literary arts community together in inspiring ways. We especially want to give a warm nod to the Origami Poems Project that flowed out of a Poetry Loft workshop in 2009, created by poets Jan Keough and Lynnie Gobielle, and inspired by a writing prompt given by Poetry Loft instructor,
Some past LOFT projects include: "Authors on Art" at URI's Feinstein Gallery, Writing Across Rhode Island, The Loft Poetry Prize, The Loft Anthology, The Loft Chapbook Awards, New England Poetry and Art Gala, Manuscript Consultations, Poetry Loft Press publications, book launch and award readings for both adults and teens, among others. We have been honored to work with you!
